Turtle wax has a foaming tire cleaner that cleans the brown off. No shine to it just cleans. It was couple bucks at the dollar store.

As far as NCRS judging the information on no dressing just clean is what judges look for, as it has been stated already.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a brand that will make the tires look like new but not overly shinny?

I believe the brown stuff is dirt. Scrubbing with dish soap diluted with warm water works well.

No, this is the result of leaching out of the tire. I get it on my cars just sitting in the garage. It does require a fairly strong cleaner to remove. But it will come back. This topic was covered previously.

I agree with Ed. I have been using Zaino for 15 years on NCRS, daily drivers and show cars. It leaves a nice satin shine and no glazed donut look.

For hoses and interior parts, I agree with the Lemon Pledge. And I'm sure it looks good on tires.

Thanks, I like your suggestion and will get some Turtle Wax.

James, if its the same crusty stuff that was on my repos, I ended-up using a heat gun to melt and wipe with clean shop towel....slowly came back though. Also time comsuming. Ed

FWIW, I have experimented with too many products to recall over the years, but I think I've settled on the Griot's Rubber and Vinyl dressing and find it maintains the "as it left the factory" objective we're all looking for in a judged tire. The Griot's product does just this. I think we want to see tires that look new, not dressed. IMHO, dealer prep makes the tire too black/shiny.

My second favorite product is Lemon Furniture polish. I'm cheap, so I usually buy a generic brand for myself, or I swipe the Pledge brand from my wife's cleaning supply bin.

I always clean the chalky white tire mold release agent from my bias and radial tires with 3M General Purpose Weather Strip Adhesive Remover. It makes the tires nice and black and does not look like they have tire dressing on them. Been doing this for decades and it has never damaged a single tire.

                        Regards,

                        James West

You can use whatever you want even the shiney stuff. Just wash the tire after you apply the tire protectant and hose it off. It takes all the shine off, and leaves a clean black tire look. Some tire protectants make the brown happen more, so I usually use one that says it doesn't brown,Mcguiers, and wash it off or rinse it off after.
