However, if there's going to be a NCRS organization and Conventions, then members have to step up, volunteer and contribute.

Otherwise, there will be no NCRS nor Conventions. JMTCW,

Well said Gary, and I found out being a volunteer (for the first time at a National) at the Texas National this year, that volunteering is probably the most fun. I plan to do it again in Vegas as one of my other chapters is organizing it.

Good thinking Loren, I have only been in NCRS since 89 and Hot August Nights in Reno was my starting event for meeting the road tour in Rocky Mtn National Park. Top down all the way on a 4400 mile excursion back to Santa Cruz. It was not really that bad as the destination was Sun River Or. John Amgwert told me the reason for the dates was purely economical, that is when the best deals were. That road trip was the best vacation I ever had. Duntov and his wife brought the 90 car road tour into town. Shinoda was a speaker and McClellan was on hand. I don't even remember the daytime temperature, but it was a pure blast. My wife refused to travel in an (her quote) "old, stinky 62, across the desert in July, to meet another bunch of *#@*-holes in old stinky cars !!!". I don't have that wife anymore but I still have that 62. Drive 'em!

You would have thought that we had proposed giving the first-born of every NCRS family to Masai warriors for training as lion spear-killers.
You deal with the organizations that know what and how to do it. Was it 1985 when we showed up in Boston and the asphalt in the parking lot had been cooling since poured THAT MORNING and the pool was CLOSED?
NCRS has to remember that for conventions, NCRS is providing the "access" to 500 party time adults with discretionary $$ for 4 days to a week -
$$ for rooms, food, entertainment, clothes, etc., etc., and there is a MULTIPLIER in play.....and nobody knows it better than resort/convention hotels. Start USING it instead of accepting the first offer........
And you forgot the bulldozer coming through the lobby during the convention.

I think the move to a professional convention planner is one of the smartest things the BOD has done in a long time. I can cite numerous occasions where things were done by a chapter member, or short sighted ideas that cost NCRS some serious money. Just go tell them we want to have a convention in wherever region of the country and let them handle the planning.

Dick, after running the 2016 convention I agree 100 percent. We have 230 members in the New England Chapter so lots of people and experience to pull from, but mistakes still happen. Small mistakes but mistakes nun the less. I do believe a chapter needs to be involved as many volunteers are needed. I also believe the associated chapter should still be compensated. After the 2016 National we held a party for all the volunteers and significant others. Upwards of 150 folks were invited. It was just our way of thanking the volunteers for all the time, effort and cost to make the National successful.

Thanks Don H. I guess life gets in the way of all the fun stuff. Just after the return from the 1989 Road Trip and Convention, The Baseball Game Earthquake hit the Santa Cruz mountains where I lived. Really bad...broke my house in half. 62 Car got damaged. (Not as unlucky as Joe Calcagno's 62.) The EQ repair and then a relocation to the ranch in OK. Took the car. Job. Travel. Finally got the car finished in 2002. Have put on about 20K miles since. Retired. Moved to Far Northern CA. Remarried. Relocated to Granbury, TX. Joined the Lone Star Chapter. Got re-inspired. Just normal stuff, huh??? Went out to CA last fall and pulled a low-mileage 60 out of a garage where it had been resting, asleep since 1970. Same owner since 61. Low Mileage (16K). Have started the renovation. I am too old to do a full body-off like the 62. It is going well. The car is remarkably intact and tight. Ugly re-paint. Ugly original combo. Only small hit once on RF. Cleaning, Checking, NO real surprises so far. 1st start is anticipated in 2 weeks. Praying. Regards, Don B.

Coming out of February March might seem like a nice month but typically we still get a little snow in March and into April and possibly a lot of snow. They don't sweep the sand and salt off the roads until May. I never get to drive my car before May in Boston.

Since I live nearby I know its too hot in July. Still I'll drive since its only 1 hour 45 minutes.

The car wash will be an issue. The water is hard and full of minerals which will create spots as much of the car will dry in the heat before you can wipe it off. Bring friends with lots of towels.

The Ford Cobra/Shelby American museum and factory is not far away and would be a good side trip for those that have not been there.

Nationals as of late have been wonderful. The only thing that tops them is the road tour.

The Ron Fellows driving school featuring the new Stingrays & Z06 is only about an hour away in Pahrump, NV. It's a great experience.

If anyone from the East Coast (or along the way from NY to Vegas vicinity) is looking for reliable, safe and timely transportation to/from the event, my brother and I are going to be handling the scheduling of a truck. We're in talks now with several known best in business truckers for the event. It is our goal to seek commitment well prior to the event. Let me know if you're in need!

                            Thanks,
                            Dan

Good day, is it possible to post a picture of what the Convention Logo Dress shirt for $50.00 looks like. I'd like to see design/color before I order one.

                              Thanks
