Good evening. Just a question, the key buzzer for my 72 works all the time even with the ignition key removed as you open the door. Any ideas why?

Re: key buzzer works even without key
Stephen, IMO the buzzer switch is broken. Normally, when inserted the teeth on the key push two contacts together to sound the buzzer. But when the switch breaks, the contacts stay together, even with the key removed.- Top

Re: key buzzer works even without key
Stephen,
You can replace the buzzer switch in the column, they are still available. However this is a pain to do and requires some mechanical ability. Search the web and you will find how to instructions. An easier fix, for a driver, would be to pull the buzzer wire connector from the horn relay where the buzzer resides. Then, no more irritating buzzer. If getting NCRS judged or you like buzzers then go for replacing the switch.- Top

Re: key buzzer works even without key
I replaced the buzzer switch in the column of my 72 with the current reproduction unit (works perfectly). Yes there are multiple specialty tools, some are cheap, some can be borrowed from your F.LA.P store but all are essential. In addition, the detailed papers that Jim Shea published on steering columns is ESSENTAL and very detailed. I believe i posted them last year on this forum. It is time consuming but not extremely difficult. From experience i would suggest taking digital photos as you disassemble things.
