I have a 1957 with a Muncie M-20 and a Hurst shifter. I bought it that way and the prior owner had that transmission installed in place of the Muncie 318 3-speed. My question is the fit of the Muncie with the Hurst shifter.
The body is located about 3/4" to the left of the chassis. With that condition (which provides more clearance), the bottom bolt that attaches the shifter to the mounting plate (that bolts to the trans) touches the body. It may have been located that way to allow the Hurst shifter to be used? I do not know why the body is in that location otherwise. The shifter stick also touches the floor console plate.
I have a Muncie 318 3-speed that I use for judging. It fits fine and has no clearance issues. I could move the body back to center with the 3-speed transmission and stock shifter.
I know I can get the correct fit with a T-10 and stock shifter. That is not my intent at this time.
Has anyone used the Muncie/ Hurst combination and had clearance issues with the body? Is there a different adaptor plate that is currently available than the one pictured?
