Jeff Priest is running an ad seeking current information on his dad's former car, '53 #230, on the Corvette Forum. When the CF went to its new format, I was "offered" the chance to join through Google or Facebook if I still wanted to post there. For whatever reason, I declined (didn't want to wear out my "x" key declining ads). In any case, '53 #230 was "featured" in Restorer vol 15, #1, on page 5 in a "Letters" column. The letter was from Ernie Hendry, then owner of '53 #300, to John Amgwert. He recited the story of Bloomington 1988 where he and John had examined #230 and in particular, the engine (LAY566995, cast 10/27/53, casting #3835911) which carried the same casting as was in Ernie's #300. John's answering letter to Ernie indicates that this is how they discovered/verified a changeover to the 1954 casting in very late 1953s. The bonus was that the letter pointed out that Jeff's father, Russell, was the second owner and had purchased the car from the original owner, Joseph Krempasky, who had bought the car at Schaffer Chevrolet in Windber PA. Turns out the "history" of the car is DONE, all Jeff has to do is find it before he wears out his "x" key.
