66 Door Hinge Issue - Suggestions

    All,
I am hoping for suggestions on the best solution, repair, or strategy to address my new reality. The spring steel clip that is riveted on the hinge to hold the door open broke on the bottom hinge (lower one). The door wouldn't shut until I used a large flat head to help the hinge over the little burred edge. So, now I need to address it and would like to know suggestions on how best to do that correctly. Suggestion much appreciated. BTW - I haven't had the chance to do an archive search to see if this has been covered.
    Thanks in advanceIMG_4265.jpgIMG_4266.jpg

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Just from looking at the pics. I would think the hinge would have to come out to fix it properly . I have had the hinges out of my 67 and it is nothing you want to do unless you absolutely have to . I know this is not much help just my experience with hinges . Jeff PS if those dimples we see in the pics. are the rivets that hold the spring on you may be able to grind them off with a dremmel / tap the rivets out and then using little machine screws bolt a new spring onto the hinge . just a thought . I hope this helps

Drivers door lower on my 61 had a similar break. Follow Dan’s advice. I forgot about it till I saw your post. I ground mine down many years ago to the point of no interference.
