Where can I find a starter?

I've checked with all of the usual sources for an 1108400 starter for a '70 454. Nobody seems to have one. I can't believe that this piece is that rare. Can anyone make a recommendation on where I could find one? Thanks.

I've been checking E-bay on a regular basis for more than six months. Nothing but a single $275 re-stamp.

Beware that there are at least two individuals that are regularly restamping starters. There work is close but detectable

It depends what you mean by "rare". If you're looking for an 1108400 which is correctly dated for your car that's a whole lot different than looking for an 1108400 with an incorrect date or a starter that would be a functional replacement for your car.

I think it would be a lot easier to find an 1108400 with incorrect dates than an 1108400 correctly dated. The 1108400 is not rare; certain dates are.

Classic Industries advertises a remanufactured 1108400 unit in their catalogs with date coding service (special order). Their part number is K7020 and you have to order by phone. I have a Camaro project going and ran across this starter listing in their catalog.

I have also been looking for a correctly dated 1108400 for my 10/68 build date for quite some time with little luck. I bid on a few Ebay starters but found the prices going way too high.

I have a question about restamps. On this board, I often read that parts--alternators, starters, etc. are restamps and that it's known whose making the parts. I don't eBay, but I do read other sources. I don't see these parts for sale. Where do these guys advertise? How do you know about these parts?

That is their idea. You are going to buy a restamp and not know it and pay the price of an original part.
