    Temperature gauge problems

Help, I can't figure what is wrong with my temperature gauge in my 67. The needle went way past the 250 degree mark ....as far off the gauge as possible. I checked all connections and everything seems good. I reversed the pink and green wires going to the gauge thinking i somehow reversed them, and the gauge needle then dropped back to normal. I ran the car a couple of times and the temperature gauge seemed to be working normal again. I just started the car again today and the gauge went way over the 250 degree mark again as soon as I turned the ignition switch.
What is happening? Is the gauge faulty?

Lorne, A temperature sender is a variable resister to ground. The higher the temperature the lower the resistance. A shot circuit to ground will cause the guage to peg to full scale deflection. i hope this helps.

      Re: Temperature gauge problems

I had the same problem with the temperature gauge on my '67. It did not have good ground. Once I got it properly grounded, problem solved. Check your ground and I'll bet that's your problem.

      Good luck.
