    Gas Cap Seal

    Hi all,

I am using an original gas cap on my 1960 and the cardboard is not really sealing well. I have a nice rubber seal that I'd like to glue over it. Is there any sort of flexible type glue I can use to keep it in that will not be dissolved by the gasoline fumes?

    Thanks,

    Bob

I believe 3m has a product to glue rubber. Product 1300. yellow contact cement. Or try Paragon they might have a solution.
Hope this helps I am by no means an expert.

I inserted a rubber gasket into my 1960 gas cap and did not need to glue it in place. Once you screw on the cap, it should hold in place, unless the gasket center hole is too large. The gasket I used fit snug around the center of the gas cap.

Keep in mind that not all rubber is fuel resistant. If you have a rubber seal that you know is for a fuel system, you're "home free". Otherwise, however, I'd use a seal that was made of neoprene or, better yet, Buna-N.
