I have A 1964 Corvette with a Built Date of 2/27/64 The Posi Differential is a 4.11. I want to verify the Posi cast number and Dates. The cast # is: 3818753-N The Cast date is: 163 The Assembly date is: CE 12463

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Sam -

Are you sure the casting date is "1 6 3" and not "A 6 3"?

      Let's hope it's an L and not an A

Sam --- carrier casting # is correct. Also, since this part is usually cast WAY before assembly (Jan 24th in your case), But are you sure that assy code is not CE_1-24-64 (instead of 63) ? I assume that the casting date reads I-6-3 (the letter "I", not the numeral 1). This would be September '63 cast for over 4.5 months between cast and assembly. Long gap but not impossible. Again, maybe check assembly year stamping and let us know.

See other thread a few postings down; this spread from cast to assemble was discussed, with examples.

I believe it is an I, it is a vertical line before the number 63.. not a # 1. Would it be September 63? Also what is the general rule regarding Posi cast dates and assembly date prior to the built date of the car? How many month prior should each be? Also what should the casting # be is this one corredt? 3818753-N

          Thanks,

          Sam

That's the correct diff housing casting number, and "I 6 3" is September 6, 1963 for the casting date, which works for an assembly date of December 4, 1963. The general rule for dated components is up to six months prior to the car's final assembly date. Axle and transmission "numbers" aren't judged in Flight judging.
