    More C1 Trivia

All repro dealers list 55 to 59 Radiator shrouds as if they are all the same .

1 55 early top shroud section had no cut out at the top radiator hose area as seen on all repro's.

2 Mid-late 55 did have the radiator top hose cut out

3 All 55's and early 56 have a five piece shroud as shown here that I painted red to highlight the fifth piece ,that is why the lower bottom section has TWO little holes to connect to the fifth piece 55 to 56 only, which repro's still Have.

4 57 to 59 should not have them because the lower bottom section now had TWO large holes to connect to the front cross frame.

No one repro's the fifth piece , even the JM don't mention it for 55 early 56. The reason was to reduce vibration of the lower shroud section.

I rarely have seen any restored 55-56 that had it installed , like many things if it's not in the JM few care or know.
    Again just some more Trivia

Shown is a original 55 Corvette

Here is the repro 55 showing the TWO little holes for the fifth piece that is missing to be screwed to but not repro'ed (all comments are welcomed )

OK Roy, you got my curiosity up enough to un-bury my '59 and take a look. I assume you are referring to those 2 oval shaped holes along the edge of the front of the lower piece. My '59 has these holes. It's number 881 and I have owned it since August of 1969. The original block was MIA when I got it so the shroud had been out before I bought it. It has never been hit in the front. I have no reason to believe that it is not original to this car. Sorry for the blury picture. My camera focused on the vintage flex hose. There are 2 bolts that hold this lower shroud to the front cross frame as you stated also.

I'll make an attempt to get a better photo if you want.

OK tom! What I told in my first post is correct "but" for the number 4 statement (4. 57 to 59 should not have them ( the two little holes) because the lower bottom section now had TWO large holes to connect to the front cross frame.)
Because I get little responce to many of my Trivia postings I said that to see if some one would look and say they had the two little holes.
Your 59 is correct having the little holes because the supplier to GM left them in because it dint matter when they made the bigger holes for the later C1's. I know I was bad saying that but wondered if some one like your self would respond .
You have the original part. Thanks

You're sneaky. I learned something though and that's what it's all about.

                Thank you,

I'm on vacation this week. My wife went off to Arizona to visit her mom and there is nobody here to tell me to go to bed.
