    C2 Headlight Switch Knob Reinstallation

    Hello all.

I am trying to get my instrument cluster back into the dash after a dash harness replacement. What seems like a simple problem is stopping me from finishing this project. As I can quite get the headlight switch to "grab" the knob assembly when I insert the knob. Each time I insert the knob, there is no resistance or click indicating that the knob is being retained by the switch. In addition I have tried the reinstallation of the knob with the side button depressed, fully, partially and not at all. In addition, I have rolled the dimmer switch back and forth while trying to re-engage the headlight switch without any help. My car is an early 1964 convertible.

Does anybody have any suggestions (short of buying a new headlight switch) or tricks for getting this knob reinstalled. I really want to get this dash back into the car this weekend and this problem has the possibility of preventing me from accomplishing this.

Many thanks for the anticipated help with this problem.

    Hi Peter,

    1. Unscrew and remove the retaining nut and push in the switch so that it drops from behind the dashboard.

    3. Let go of the release button, and then pull the knob out as far as it will go. Once you've reached the end of its travel, depress the release button to allow you to fully remove the shaft (you've now left the locking mechanism in its most forward position).

    4. Reinstall the switch in the dashboard.

    5. While keeping the release button depressed, insert the shaft, and slowly push it in as far as it will go. When you feel it click in place, release the button, and you should be good to go.

    Best of luck!

    Louis
