    Another C4 Glass Question

I found a replacement door glass for my LT-4 it has the proper LOF emblem with just one difference: there is a code to the right of the LOF emblem and underneath the "FLO-LITE" script. The one piece of original glass in my car (passenger door) has YY-3 for this code. My car was #09304 and assembled in Dec'95. The donor car is also an LT-4 and #17536, making it a fairly late production car for that year. The driver side glass is identical in every way except that it has LU-3 for this code.

Can anyone tell me what this code represents? There is no 94-96 TIM&J yet, but would this likely cause a deduction when these cars become eligible for judging?

I have included a picture of the emblem and codes on the original passenger glass of my car.

    Thanx

    Re: Another C4 Glass Question

Thanx Dave. That makes total sense and is further corroborated by the production dates of the vehicles. My Vette, seq # 09304 was assembled in late December 1995. The donor car of the replacement window, seq # 17536 was probably assembled in early-to-mid May 1996. Using your date code calculations would indicate that the glass was manufactured approximately 2-1/2 months prior to vehicle assembly in both cases. I'll have to pass on this one and keep looking

      Re: Another C4 Glass Question

      Dave,

Thanks for the additional information in your post. I will use it to keep looking. I still have several years before this car will be eligible for its first judging event and a salvage yard (Dino's Corvette Salvage) that is willing to work with me to find a suitable piece of glass. I think I might even have softened him up enough to help me get an original windshield. He said that if I'll come out and pay the freelance guy the $50 per try to remove the glass from the car (no guarantee of success) and take the glass (i.e. he doesn't have to deal with crating/shipping) he would be willing to provide the donor cars and sell me a good windshield. It may not sound like a great deal - I take all the risk - but he is the first guy I have found that is willing to even do this. Most just say they don't sell windshields and abruptly hang up. Not that I can blame them given the low success rate getting the glass out of the car and shipped to the customer in one piece. There simply isn't enough money in it to cover the risks, time and costs.

My other option is to purchase new from Pilkington Classics and use their Logo Service to sandblast the exact logo, date code and DOT info that I want. I wonder if that will pass judging . The logo on my one piece of original glass does appear to be etched/sandblasted in - it has a milky white appearance and casts a semi-transparent shadow.

        Floyd
I talked to Pilkinton and they told me that I would not be satisfied with thier sandblasting. The man i talked to said that it would not be good for a judged car. I bought one of thier new windshields and am satisfied with it. But on the other hand I am going to continue to look for a correct one.Good luck Tom
