1963 Engine with 200 original miles

Here is an interesting engine on EBAY with 200 original miles.

Does the RE suffix mean it is a replacement engine ?

Does this engine look completely original ?

RE means 340 HP. CE is replacement code. It looks very original--interesting story, at least!

Rev. Mike, I didn't know until just recently that CE stands for counter exchange. JD
Chris did an excellent job with the listing. Great pics and details. Probably one of the best listings I have ever seen.
Notice the original stamped pad. I just enlarged it and printed the pic. Good one to use for reference when studying pads. See the shape of the 9 and the configuration of the R for RE.
No that engine is quite a find.
Notice that the FII29RE is up a tad higher from the edge of the block like a lot of ones you see. It's quite distinct. JD

        John;

SEE EEH! You learn something every day and you'll never grow old.

Seeing that engine makes me salivate. Everything looks in order, incl. the 3461S AFB. Dated pretty early for mine, but could be a nice replacement when the day comes for a rebuild of mine (may be soon if I continue having oil dilution). Have to see if my pilot sons will get it for their old man for Christmas. Surprised my NCRS son hasn't sent me the E-Mail yet; "What do ya think Dad?"

          John -

Actually, the "CE" stamp code stands for "Chevrolet Engine" per the September, 1968 Chevrolet Dealer Information Bulletin.

Sorry John. I was just "joshing" with you sort of sounding out the letters CE (See Eeh). Sometimes I get too cute and lose people or a point. Seems we have a controversy going. Wouldn't be the first time an Acronym had two meanings. They both sound good to me.

Isn't anyone going to comment on the remains of silver paint on the cyl head/intake manifold surface?
How about the silver AP intake bolts?

I know a lot of folks still don't believe my silver paint story.

Care to share the silver paint theory again for those of us who missed it ??

Wasn't there recently a complete fuelie on Fleabay? Seems like complete 63 engines are coming out of the wood-work lately.

John, Since I joined NCRS 30 years ago I heard the CE stood for Chev Engine. Now someone said I was incorrect. Stood for Counter Engine. I don't know how some people come up with this stuff and I am dumb enough to think they know what they are talking about.
Thanks for the correction. Hope people see your post. JD

I saw the silver paint MH. Was wondering if you saw it too. I have to go back and study the silver as I was told that the LWC silver paint wasn't quite correct on the front edge. A picky MD told me that. Don't remember his name though. JD
