096 Headlight Switch - 1960

My 096 head light switch has a dimmer that is loose and my dash lights only work when the knob is jiggled. This also cause the tail lights to blink and has been blowing a 10A fuse. The socket calls for a 15A fuse. I will replace the fuse with a 15A fuse tomorrow.

Should I replace the switch ?

Do you know any vendor that sells an 096 switch that will be OK for judging ? The AIM calls for a 1995096 switch so I believe mine is original.

Remove it and clean the wire and contact button

The dimmer rheostat is a sub-assy on the '096 headlight switch (along with other similar but different PN switches). It's retained on the switch assy via contact leads that are riveted/spot welded to the mating leads extending from the switch body. These can loosen over time allowing the dimmer rheostat's mounting to the main switch body to become 'sloppy' with the rheostat being able to move relative to the switch body. Such COULD result in intermittent operation and/or shorting of the rheostat...
