How accurate for judging purposes is the repo hi horse 270 balancer for a 1959 corvette? I believe most of the vendors sell them, thanks scott

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
Try a search - I recall much discussion of this topic. Not so much mention of the reproduction, but of the various HP options and what they look like.
You can also see about 5 different ones on e-bay, all claiming to be what you are looking for!
If photos will help you, lemme know.

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
hi-i think you will find that none of them look like the originals. they will have holes on the outside diameter or will be the wrong thickness.a bunch of us have been searching with no luck. i ended up just getting a new gm replacement for about $50. figuring it was not worth spending more for a poor reproduction. if this situation has changed i would be happy to know.- Top

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
You are right, the correct originals are very hard to find. I just had one rebuilt last month and the rebuilder (Damper Doctor) received it from me rebuilt it and shipped it back, all in just over 1 week. He told me he would restore it immediately upon receipt as he didn't want to loose sight of it, misplace it and have to replace it. He told me he knows of a guy that has been looking for one for 6 years with no luck! I too have seen several on ebay that are not even close to being correct! Good timing, my engine was put together last week!

Re: 1959 Corvette H.P. balancer
Does anyone have accurate measurements on the 3764318 270 H.P. harmonic balancer. I think the outer diameter is 6 1/8" dia and 3/4" thick and the hub is 4 1/2" dia. (correct me if i'm wrong) But what is the smaller inner diameter and what is its thickness?- Top

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
Tom, I have what I believe is a correct 270 hp balancer, but would be interested in confirming this with you and others. Can you please post a few pics? Thanks.

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
I think this may be what you guys are asking about, but not sure. Here are a couple of pictures I just took and will post(I learned this today). I am including the dimensions as I am checking with a vernier caliper"
Large OD-6" (nominal as is actually a little bigger than will fit my 6" caliper but not much)
The thickness of the 6" dia. is-.610
OD of smaller front dia.- 4.500(on the money)
the depth of the 4.5 dia is-.535
Seal dia-.765 (this dia. is1-1/16" long
Id checks-1.250
This may not even be the right part your speaking of. Please confirm is so, and I will put an ad in the next driveline for it.
Just trying to help and learn in the process...
Lynn
Feel free to ask if I can do anything else to verify!!- Top

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
Here are pictures of the one that came off my 1960 290 hp corvette. I am not sure if it is the same as the one you are looking for, but this balancer is off the numbers matching, original engine that came in my corvette, driven a total of 3 1/2 years total in it's 50 year life. Hopefully when the restoration is done, it will get several more years of driving!- Top

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
The balancer is on the engine, which is now in the chassis, which is at the restoration shop waiting for the body/paint to get done. I will be down there (320) miles away in two weeks to take another load of parts and see the progress. I will try to take some measurements then!

Re: 1959 Corvette balancer
Myron,
This is one that I have and I believe it to be correct for the high hp '59.
Large dimension 61/4" width 5/8"
Smaller dimension 5" width 5/8"
As you can see it has been rebuilt and virtually brand new. I would be willing to let it go but it would be very expensive if anyone is interested.
