Thanks for posting your tray. At first I thought there were too many numbers but I see that the first mark that looks like a "1" is just the end of the stamp holder. The date appears to be "3 526 71" (3rd shift, May 26, 1971).

Do you have Microsoft Office?
You can download "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" as a free add-on, and it works well to resize pictures.

Here are a few pics of mine. I had it restored. In the process he re-did the date, but with the same date of 3 510 71.

My box was quite beat up and I think he did an excellent job of restoring the box. However, I think the font on the date stamp looks different than it previously did. (although many of the scuff marks around it are now gone)

There are a large number of storage compartment pictures posted here. Many of those are tied to Corvettes so we can determine when the storage boxes were produced, even without the date stamp.

I suggest someone spend some time exploring the details of these boxes beyond the date. Back when I had no job Joe Lucia and I explored some of the different part numbers assigned to these storage boxes -- I think there were three part numbers for the fiberboard tray (although some may have been service parts), and some of the detail differences were in the depth of the notch to clear the lid latch, and the number and locations of the small holes in the lip. There may be other running differences that would be of interest to the discriminating restorer, and it looks like we might have the resources here to ferret them out if someone is willing and able to document them.
