I don't think the Kroil oil smells that bad at all. PB blaster stinks more than Kroil.

Kroil is very good, but over the years I have come to prefer Corrosion-X for its penetrating ability. Additionally, in the marine environment it is proven as an excellent preservative.

I just about mave my "30 Tudor up and running. I have had the chassis all finished for about 4 years now but have been dragging my feet on the paint. But now it is about ready for final assembly.

        Take care,

Hi Chris, I've had a Model A since 1959. At Spring Carlisle this year a guy drove by my trailer with an "A" pickup he had for sale. Original one. When I heard that old sound I said to myself that I just have to get my old Pickup running again. Meanwhile need a diversion from POC FI's. JD

          Re: Penetrating oil

i've used Kroil for years. bought it by the gallon. however, i've found a penetrant that i believe works superior to Kroil. its a Kimball Midwest product and is available in two different vicosities, the lighter being "Torq CB Corrosion Blasting Penetrating Oil" and the most viscous being "Inter-lube Delayed Viscosity Penetrating Grease". both varities come in 13 oz aerosol cans. i've also found that the drill bits from Kimball Midwest are far superior to the ones off the snap-on truck. and if a kimball midwest bit is broken, they are replaced free of charge, unlike the snap-on bits. the Kimball Midwest sales rep comes by the shop regularly and also carries nuts, bolts, washer and tools. one of their neatest tools is a bit that both drills the hole and then follows up tapping the hole. these bits are also replaced free of charge should the break(and they do).mike

One of my industrial supply magazines that came today has an add in it from Kano Laboratories. They are still running the special on Aero Kroil. According to the ad, the special is in effect until 9/15/09.

They are offering two king size (I think the can is 13 oz.) cans for $12.00. The website address to order the special is: www.kanolabs.com/impo.

                Re: Penetrating oil

Machinist's Workshop magazine tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular
penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut
                from a

                "scientifically rusted" environment. The results are as follows;

                Penetrating oil..... Average load

                None ..................... 516 pounds

                WD-40 .................. 238 pounds

                PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds

                Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds

                Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds

                ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50-50 automatic
                transmission fluid and acetone.

                  Re: Penetrating oil

A very dangerous mixture, ATF-Acetone, not recommended for use in any shop. It is a lot easier taking a little more time to remove a fastener that it is to replace your vehicle or even worse your shop or house.

The only way to order Kroil is either by phone or on e-bay. I just e-mailed them and ordered several days ago.

                        Re: Penetrating oil

Be careful buying the Kroil penetrating oil as there are 3 or 4 variations of the penetrating oil.
The Aero-Kroil seems to be the most popular one though. Or so I thought until I read some of the posts here.
Eastwood has a Sili-Kroil with silicone in it.
Kano-Kroil has me confused. The company that sells it is Kano.

                        QT: What's the difference between Kano-Kroil & Aero-Kroil???
                        Thanks, JD

John, good to see and visit with you last week at Carlisle. Hope you had a good meet. Kano Labs is the manufacturer of Kroil oil products. http://www.kanolabs.com/ Regular Kroil oil is in liquid form, whereas AeroKroil is in aerosol spray can. That's what it looks like from the info on their website. There's even a "SiliKroil" with silicone. Gary....

What concerns me is that someone would put this into a sprayer and atomize it. Very volatile product.
