    OT C6 Z06 tires

I apologize in advance, but I trust the council of the people on this site more than some of the other sites.

My 2007 Z06 needs new tires and I am pretty sure I will go with the Michelin PS2 ZP. (run flat). I know they are more expensive than the OEM tires and I know many people don't like run flats, but I'm not tracking the car. I'm 63 and my flat tire dealing days are long gone

    Any comments?

Rich, Being in the automotive bussiness I'd say you've got the right pick for tires. mich. tires have always been the best tire on market, run flats sound like a good way to go if your looking for a way to lip into a tire repair shop when you've got aleaking tire or flat.

The Michelin ZPs receive good reviews for the street over on the other site. It seems to be the track guys who don't like them.

I would have bought the Michelins for mine, but the rear tires needed changing when only the inner inch or two wore down to the cords. I wanted to get the car alignment dialed in before I invested in the Michelins. The Michelin ZPs will be my next tires, unless soemthing else comes out in the mean time.

Just curious but your car is still relatively "new". How many miles do you have on the car that they would need new tires? My 2003 Z06 tires have 9500 miles on them and the tire treads have minimal wear so far. PT

My 07 has 12K on it and one front tire is down to the wear marks and the others are close. These are Eagle F1 EMT's

I had a 2003 Z06 I traded in with 16K miles and the original tires would still pass NYS inspection, but barely.

            Pat,
The Goodyear run-flats do not have great wear abilities. The guys over on CF typically get from 12K to 20K from the GY, with most seeming to be changing the tires at 15K of so.

I found my rears needing change at 18K and the fronts now need replacing at 19K. Some have reported finding alignment issues complicating the wear situation (as I did).

What seems like high wear just seems to come with the territory.

OEM GY shows a wear rating of 220 on Tire Rack. Michelin PS2 ZP are the same rating, so there may be no improvement there. My take is tweaking the alignment of the C6s (at least the Z06) is just another maintenance task. When the tires are as wide as theae are, I believe they are very sensitive to alignment.

Thanks Terry but I've had a new 2002 Z06 and now a 2003 Z06 and neither of them came with factory supplied run-flats. They are Goodyear Eagle F-1 "Super Car" tires. They even give you a GM battery operated air compressor with a can of sealant that stores in the rear compartment.

It has been said that adding run flats would add 23 lbs. to the weight of the car. Even the windshield is thinner than a standard C-5, FWIW. When did they start equipping Z06's with run-flats? PT

I believe all C6 Z06 cars have EMT's and tire pressure monitors from the factory. Certainly all 2007's do. The tires from the factory are GY supercar F1 EMT (run flat). There's no tire fix kit like we used to have on the C5 Z06.

I guess the weight is one reason is why most if not all C6 owners who track their cars have a set of track tires. Me, I drive to the coffee shop

Rich is, I believe, correct. ALL C6s get EMT (Extended Mobility Tires, a.k.a. run-flats. No spare, no jack, no lug wrench, no air compressor. I suppose the lack of ALL those acquitments makes up for the added weight of the run-flat tires Of course the run-flats add unsprung weight, but that probably will not be too much of an issue on the way to the coffee shop.
