    Expansion Tank

I have a BB and was told that the 66 BB would not have a overflow tank. Any comments on this subject?

    Walter -

That's correct - '66 BB's didn't use an expansion tank; they had a copper/brass radiator with the cap on the passenger side tank. In '66, only small-blocks used the expansion tank (with an aluminum radiator with no cap).

The expansion tank is built into the radiator. Original radiators (maybe service replacements, too) have a cold fill mark several inches below the cap.

I recall reading previously about early 66 cars that used left over 65 right inner fenders which had holes in them giving the impression that there was an expansion tank when in fact left over parts from the previous where just being used up. Ed

              Ed -

ALL RH inner fenders had the four holes for the expansion tank bracket rivets - they were drilled by the panel molding source, and filled with globs of bond at St. Louis and A.O. Smith on big-block bodies.
