I looked at a beautiful 92 black rose yesterday and the question I have is why would the exhaust manifold be rusted very badly when every thing else is great shape the car is a Chicago car could that be reason? very low documented milage.

Re: Rust
Manifolds will look rusty. Probably have looked that way since they were nearly new. Not unusual.

Re: Rust
If stored in an unheated garage in Chicago, the raw cast iron sees a lot of condensation in the spring and fall. Probably a lot more than it would see in Georgia.- Top

Re: Rust
You might even see some rust on the exhaust. Seems GM did not use the best grade of stainless. Also, there seems to be some galvanic action going on between the steel components and the aluminum in places. Mine is a very low mile car, also and scored 97.5 at the Texas Regional. The judging teams noted things I had not seen before.

Most of the manifolds should not even be visible as they are largely covered by the heat shields. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe:
On the Corvettes, the LT1 manifolds are very visible and quite ugly on most. Here's a 93 in our shop today for service. As you can see. Even the shields don't hide the rusty surface.
