    Dear NCM Board Members,

I have a idea for you to consider at your next board meeting. This is an excerpt from a discussion we had at the NCRS Technical Discussion Board regarding the Duntov Property that is for sale for over a year now. Please consider my idea. The NCRS thread is located here. If you do not have access please sign in as a guest to read it.

My idea posted on this thread:

    This may sound crazy but...............

The NCM should consider buying the property and work a deal with one of the large structure moving companies and bring it to the museum in Kentucky, put a slab out near the parking lot entrance, and rest the house on it. This would be a massive undertaking.....but have you ever watched "Mega Moves" on TV? This.........Piece-o-cake!

The souls of Zora and Elfie would be home there.

With all of the money they make on C6 raffles, the NCM could use some of the proceeds to help pay for the costs. They could also start a fundraiser to help offset costs, and could even cut up pieces of the original foundation, and sell them as special commemorative mementos of the house, again to raise money for the project.

I would gladly contribute to preserve a piece of Corvette history.

    Rich

    Rich,
The Museum BoD meet last weekend in conjunction with the C5/C6 Bash. I don't know how frequently they meet, but it might be a while until their next meeting.

This house is not on such a small lot. It may that there's no real backyard, but there's a very large front lawn area. I thought that was how I remembered it. So, if this house were moved away (or demolished), there would be an adequate size lot to build a larger house. In fact. it looks like this lot is larger than other lots in the area which have what appears to be much larger houses on them.

Re: Duntov's house is for sale

Lot is standard for Lochmoor Boulevard at 105 x 162 deep. Yes there is a side to the lot lost from the street.

Current registered owner (Nov 2008) is: THOMSEN, HOWARD JAY

Sale DateSale PriceInstrumentGrantorGranteeLiber/Page 11/04/2008$10.00PTADONTOV, ZORA ARKUS-DUNTOV ELFITHOMSEN, HOWARD JAY

There is a reason that house is so far from the street but given that. Empty lots are at a premium, there are none. So as we have seen at least 3 times on Lochmoor now, a person with some coin buys the place at a bargain and tears down the old house building a new one in its place. This of course all before summer of 2008. Empty lot could easily fetch over 100k. Therein lies the issue, a tired house, cost of renovation is more than the property will ever be worth. Museum could come out way ahead if moving cost is not a million.

For those serious about this and need to discuss with the governing city, get in touch with me.

Right now $275 cash and the place is yours, but you don't want to be a big company walking in the door, the price will go up from 325k. FYI the listing company is usually 25k over market too compared to other realator's.

An added bonus might very well be that the missing build sheets are found buried in the basement after the house is dug up.

                  Can't sleep thinking about this......

                  Can you imagine:

The NCM decides to do this.

The Mega-Movers decide to move the house in separate floors and sections to make it easier to get under bridges getting to Bowling Green.

In the process of the separation, they discover hidden compartments in the floors and the walls, filled with "Special Information" that only Zora knew about.

                  Hmmmm, Maybe Walls Will Talk

With all the negatives being pointed out, the house is still a steal at $325,000. I pass by it every day and all it needs is a little care and updating. The Duntov Way Green Street sign is still on the property. The Michigan economy is the reason for the price because it is one of the nicest streets in the Pointes and a block form lake St Claire.

It would be great to relocate Duntovs' home to the Museum and include furniture, etc.

Another example or Motor City depressed prices---

Why doesn't the NCRS buy it and use it as dedicated business offices. I'm sure the Mortimers would just jump at the chance of moving to Detroit.

No business on a residential street here, especially Lochmoor.

As far as the negatives, not really, you just want to get the best price you can. It is not being sold as a historical property, if you contact the realestate as such, your guaranteed a high price. Right now you can get it for what some people wanted for empty lots. And given long term knowledge, a H-M sign always means an over priced house to the comparables.
