Re: 69 Fog in the cabin

I see Doc rebuild has the 68-79 core exept AC #8860205 for $69.95. Do I also nee the 68-79 Heater Box 6 piece seal kit #8844230 for $24.50. That kit also has 30 rivets; are there a lot of rivets involved in this project?

    Thanks,

    Don

You won't need to use any of the rivets unless you are going to do a complete rebuild of the heater box, including replacing the seals on the heater box "flapper" valve (door). In fact, if you don't do this, the only seals you really need are the seals shown as "B" and "F" in the Doctor Rebuild catalog. As explained in the catalog, the seal labeled "B" was never actually used in PRODUCTION. However, it's a good idea to add it and no one will ever know it's there.

It's nice to replace the "flapper" valve seals, but considering the re-riveting necessary, you might want to skip that. Keep in mind, though, that it's the flapper valve that controls the heat in the cabin as there is no coolant control valve in a non A/C 1969. So, if the flapper valve leaks, you get some heat into the cabin even when you have the heater turned off. You will likely find that the flapper valve seals are quite deteriorated.

If you get the whole kit, which is not really very expensive, you will have all the parts you need IF you decide to do the flapper valve seals. If not, you will have some parts "left over".

The seal labeled "F" may be re-usable. However, you'll likely find that yours will be quite deteriorated.
