C-3 Convert. Door Weatherstrips

Any tips or pointers that you fella's can pass along to a novice. I've just recieved my new door weatherstrips, screws & 3-M Black adhesive for my 74 convertible and will probably start tackling (at least one door) this weekend. Looks pretty straight forward but........ My originals on the doors now are dissinegrated beyond belief (sections completly missing) and I know door readjustment is also going to be a task at hand after the new one's are installed THANKS!

Hi Marty,
I installed the weatherstrip dry using strips of painters tape so I could see how they would fit and also be sure of the location on the door where it's coating of glue should be brushed on.
Not too bad a job... 3 hands does help a bit.

If your objective is to do the job factory-concourse correct, 'lose' the 3M Black adhesive and read your copy of the Judging Guide, Interior, Section 4, Door Jambs, Sills, Weatherstripping & Hinges. Pay close attention to the descriptive text that says:

"Excess glue (yellow in color) is the norm..."

Look at your existing adhesive coverage if you believe it to be factory original and try to mimic that. BTW, some feel the Pliobond weatherstrip adhesive (Google it for sources) more closely approximates the factory original glue than the 3M yellow does...

Be sure to wipe down the new weatherstrip with alcohol on a rag first to remove any traces of the mold release compound; if you don't, glue adhesion will be compromised.

Martin, I found some weatherstrip adhesive that looks just like the factory and its has a brush built onto the cap for application which, I Believe was like the factory did, the company Wurth automotive products, makes it, the problem is you will need to order it. if it wasn't brushed on Terry will correct me.
