Build date

As a new kid on this forum perhaps one of you more seasoned members can answer a question on when my 1961 was built. The vin is 10867S110828 and the casting date on the block is 3756519 FG1. I was told she was a May manufacture then advised she was a June build and later according to something called the black book she was manufactured July 20th and was the 10,825 unit completed on the 3rd shift. Three dates three different Corvette owners.

Google "c1 registry".....the birthdate calculator there says july 20 , 1961

Ok, 110828 would be a late JULY build (1110939 last built in July) That would match nicely with a block cast in early July. BTW the Car plant did not run a third shift, two shifts only max.

The block casting date is on the passenger side rear flange, about 4"-6" outboard of the distributor; it will start with a letter for the month, then one or two numbers for the day, then one number for the year. i.e., C 15 7 would be March 15, 1957.

The assembly date for the engine is stamped on the machined pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head; it will start with an "F", followed by one or two numbers for the month, followed by one or two numbers for the day, followed by a 2-letter suffix code.

The above applies to a Flint-built engine, which were the only engines used in small-block Corvettes; Tonawanda-built engines have two numbers for the "year" portion of the block casting date code, and the front pad stamp will start with a "T" - Tonawanda engines weren't used in small-block Corvettes.

FYI - it will help with responses if you use the year model icon "61-62" in your case when you start a thread. Also those icons aid in searching.

See prior post in this thread. 2-digit year codes are typical of Tonawanda castings while Saginaw/Flint engines used a single digit year code. Since Tonawanda didn't supply SB engines for Corvette (a literal handful of exception cases), the single digit year code IS what you want!

Tonawanda big-block castings use a single digit for the year; most Tonawanda 60's small-block castings use two digits for the year (and weren't used on Corvettes).

And I found this to be a fascinating topic in a different thread. So, a question about the single digit year code Tonawanda castings.

Do the single digit Tonawanda castings all also have the large letter T (stamped or cast)?
