    finish on under dash brackets

What is the finish on the under dash brackets? Specifically:

The bracket that the brake pedal pivots in.

The large cast bracket that goes between the brake pedal bracket and the steering collum bracket

    The steering collum bracket

    Thanks

    Mike

    Mike,

If you are talking about 1965, I would say the finish is semi black for these pieces..

      Hi Mike,
Are you asking about the L-89 car you're working on?
On my 71 the bracket for the brake (and clutch) pivot appeared to be zinc plated and the heavy cast iron bracket was natural.
      Perhaps the same in 69?
      Regards,
      Alan

I'm not sure what steering column bracket you're asking about.

Thanks Alan, this is the brake pedal bracket I was talking about. I will take to be be plated this week.

The "steering column bracket" is the one that attaches underneath the cast iron one with four nuts. Both it and the cast bracket are slotted at the attach points.

Since you have removed this brake pedal bracket, can you tell me if the reinforcing plate on the inside of the wiper door recess is zinc as well?

        Thanks

        Mike

All those parts on my 70 were natural steel or natural cast iron.

I didn't comment earlier because I considered they could be different for your 69. Some slight surface corrosion was removed with a wire brush wheel. I burnished the brushed steel parts with steel wool, and then clear coated.

If you're talking about the reinforcing plate riveted to the body, it is also natural steel.

Thanks Chuck. I bought a bead blaster yesterday and it appears that there was zinc plating on the brake pedal bracket. It was visble only after the rust was removed. Given the amount of surface rust, I assumed that it was bare steel.

As long as we are on the subject: does anyone know what the finish is on the bracket at the bottom of the windshield that the wipers park against?

What about the one that the wiper door safety switch attaches to?

I concluded that both were originally dip-painted in GM black primer...an eggshell or satin black.

                Hi Mike,
I agree with Chuck on the 2 wiper-well pieces.
The 'stop' had a very nice diagonal run/drip from one of the holes for mounting.
