    53-55 differential codes, huh?

During the 53-55 period the Powerglide equiped Corvette differentials were stamped with three different codes - LW, MW, AE. Althought there is the suggestion that all 53's came with the same code as 54's it is clear that 55's supposedly had a different code than 54's.

Does anyone know what the different codes signify? Is there any physical difference in the differentials for those three years? They all have 3.55:1 gears.

Is there any experience indicating that the codes may have carried over from one year to the next? For example, I seem to understand that many parts for 55's were made in 54 and were left over from the lower than anticipated 54 production driven by low sales. So wouldn't there have been differentials, rear springs, and such made in 54 that were used in 55?
