While setting the timing on my newly overhauled L84, I was brought to a higher state of wakefulness when I put my hand on the distributor to set the timing. The current plug wires are 8mm and I will be replacing them. It seems that the industry has gone to 8.5mm for premium plug wires. I need to buy bulk wire and separate boots/terminals since the "universal" sets come with wires that are too short for the stock wire separators on cylinders 7 and 8. I (think that I) would like to use spiral core supression wire.
MSD and others sell bulk wire and boots but they seem to have gone to 8.5mm. Can anyone tell me if 8.5mm will fit in the stock wire separators? Would the 8.5mm boots be snug on 8mm wire?
On a related subject, is the stock ignition shielding effecive enough to use solid core (non resistor) wire?
My 65 is a car that I drive and I want the best functioning wires. I don't care about date codes although it would be nice if the wires were black. Thanks and looking forward to your replies.
