    Soeedometer Cable Lube

What type of lube is suggested to use for lubing the speedometer and tach cables and how to apply? Thank You.

I just asked the local speedo shop the same question. His answer - " I've been using a light coat of Vaseline on them cables for over 40 years and never had a problem".
So after cleaning everything, that's exactly what I did. Can't argue with success.

I agree. I have used Vaseline or a light coating of white lithum grease (Lubri-plate) on MANY speedo cables over the years without ANY failures.

That being said, I believe Corvette Central (and others) sell a product called Kable-Eze (or similar spelling) just for this purpose. Check their website or catalog.

EDIT: CC Kable-Ease Part# 211002. Manufacturered by AGS Company (American Grease Stick Company).

I used the Corvette Central lube. Apparently that is what the speedo re-builders use.

Seems to work okay. Just be careful you don't get too much on. The rotary action of the cable will carry it up into the head and mess it up. Some say not to lube all the way to the head.

There should be plenty of posts in the archives - this has been discussed before.

I am careful to use what is approved because I lubed my 59 chevy with a lube that thickened when the temp dropped and the speedo started swinging from 0 to the stop till it broke.

Then I repeated the mistake 30 years later with a pick up truck that I owned in southern CA.

The temp was always warm so I used what i thought would work. It did till I took the kids to ski at Mamouth.

when we started to drive home the spedo did the same swing but I was able to stop in time and disconnect it before it broke.

We had a graphite lube years ago that worked.
