    62 Heater Control valve picture

Would someone please post a picture showing the heater control valve and the under dash hose connections.

I would like to see the hoses going in/out of the heater box, and the hoses going in/out through the firewall as well as the valve assembly.

I did look at the AIM and see the diagram, but a real picture will help sort out the mess I have.. A PO did a kludge with plumbing pipe fittings and its a mess.

    Thank you,

    Tony

    Tony -

Shown below is a scan from Dave Zuberer's treatise on C1 heater restoration. Photo was shot from inside the car, and shows the fittings and hoses. Both hose fittings on the heater (valve fitting and lower core fitting) are 5/8".

The upper (inlet) pipe from the valve takes a 5/8" hose on the engine side of the firewall, which goes to the fitting on the intake manifold.

The lower (outlet) fitting and hose takes a special 90* copper elbow that's 5/8" at the heater end and 3/4" at the other end; it gets a 3/4" hose that goes through the firewall to the water pump inlet fitting.

Paragon has the 90* formed hose that connects the valve to the heater core inlet, and they also have the special 5/8" x 3/4" 90* copper elbow (beaded at both ends) that joins the 5/8" core outlet hose to the 3/4" hose through the firewall.

I happened to have this one because I wanted to remember to change the incorrect clamp. I could get some additional ones tomorrow if needed. Let me know what you are looking for.

          Steve,

Thank you. I am all set. I can now see what a mess the PO of my car did with pipe fittings, and twisted hoses.

            Folks,

The pictures were helpful. I ordered all of the right parts this week and did the install today. Everything is done and it even works!!!!

Thanks again for the info and help,

            Tony

Did you replace the heater hoses? I just tried to install a set from Corvette Central and they are not the right size. I would assume they are imported and made to a Metric standard so that the 3/4" & 5/8's are not exactly SAE sized. The 5/8" hose on the copper 90 would never work with a corbin clamp. Too loose to my liking. It would be fine with a modern worm gear clamp.

I've found a source for REALLY correct SAE sized ribbed hose and they are perfect.

Re: 62 Heater Control valve picture

I purchased the following all from paragon and they fit well.

                      1. Heater control valve
                      2. Rubber elbow between valve and heater core
                      3. Copper elbow with proper ends
                      4. New 5/8" and 3/4" hoses with GM logo, and ribs.

All of the hoses fit nice and tight and I used the Corbin clamps on everything. No leaks.

Since the 70's, I have a habit on any hose connections inside the car, putting a small amount of gasket sealer on the fittings before slipping the hose on.

                      Regards,
                      Tony

When I did my '61 last summer I also ordered the hoses and fitting from Paragon. They went to gether without problems and no leaks.

                        Good luck.
