My hardtop is never on the car and is just in the way. I would like to hang it suspended from the garage ceiling but the aftermarket one's that I've seen state not for long term storage. Has anyone fashioned a method to do this? Would there be any harm to the top by suspending it, like distorting it?

Re: Hardtop Storage
I happen to have a couple threads bookmarked from previous discussions on this topic as I plan to move my hardtop to take less room. Here are a couple links, and I'm sure you can find more searching previous threads, including older ones in the archives:

This is just my 2 cents, but I'm guessing "not for long term storage" comment is just to limit liability/responsibility on the part of the manufacturer and/or vendor. If it's well made with quality materials, and maybe even additionally reinforced or with redundancy failsafe, it's probably fine.- Top

Re: Hardtop Storage
That is a great suggestion. I have a 67 vinyl hardtop that has not been used in the last 30+ years. I will use a modified version of your rod. Drill and tap the ends so that the original screws can be used and you won't have to spread the hardtop brackets to install the rod. Measuring the distance on the original deck lid will give the exact length of the rod.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Hardtop Storage
I've hung mine suspended for many years and at three different places that I've lived at. I use the same unit that has a wench (of course) and a padded bar w/straps. The only down side for me has been the distortion of the weather stripping, particularly at the center of the rear deck seal.
Any method must take into consideration whether it is a one person or two person job. With the suspended method, once you have your hardware mounted, you can pull it up from the floor yourself. Putting it on the car is always a two person project. You can't wench it down onto the car by yourself. I prefer dropping it to the floor, then with a helper, picking it up and bringing it on over the front of the car which (ironically) seems easier than trying to avoid the antenna at the back.
