I do not have any leaks coming out of my Powerglide! The secret, I drained the ATF last night. One NCRS member recommended that I not use any sealant on the new gaskets. What is the reasoning behind this?
The only reason I can come up with is that excess sealant might be squeezed into the interior of the tranny and possibly contaminate the ATF. I assume it is critical to keep the ATF as clean as possible.
The first PG side cover I removed was the dipstick tube side cover. The exhaust pipe caused interference with removing 2 of the short bolts. I used a large C clamp to pull the pipe toward the frame rail about 1/4"; just enough to remove the two bottom bolts. That cover is the most accessible to remove.
The low and drive valve cover will come off next. Not sure what small parts will spring out or fall out when the cover is removed.
