    58 leaf spring

I need to know the correct way to remove my leaf springs. The bolt that goes through the rubber bushings on the front and back turns when I try to remove the nut. I see the front side of the spring is mounted to the frame with a bracket with four bolts. Does this have to be removed to get the spring off?

Yes, you have to remove the bolts. I would give them a good soaking with a penetrating oil for a couple of days first. The photos show the front spring bolt and mount. The large head is almost against the frame so it can't be removed with removing the mount. The bolt head was knurled and was a press fit into the mount. If the bolt is turning, the interference ( press ) fit between the bolt and mount has been lost due to corrosion. At minimum the bolt would have to be replaced. If there is not a good press fit between the new bolt and original bracket then both will need to be replaced. They are both available from Paragon or Corvette Central.

Thanks Erich, that is what I thought but was not sure. The bolts for the bracket look pretty rusty. I have already put some lubication on them. Thanks for the info.

How did you make out on the front a-arm. I emailed you and never got a reply.
