54 pinion seal

My seal is seeping, I have a seal I purchased a couple of years ago. The manufacturer is National, #3588, ( I think, its not stamped too deep) measurers 3 7/16 OD and the metal portion measurers 1 7/8 I.D. Is this the correct seal??? Thanks as always.

The dimensions sound correct. However, I cannot find any reference for a National #3588.

The 53-55 Corvette pinion seal is different than later C1. It was discontinued without supercession in 1971 and was GM part #3707355. Caution: I believe many of the manufacturer cross-references for this part number are INCORRECT.

Mine started leaking this winter. I planned to buy the seal from CC or Grossmuellers. I think it is $46.00.

I was too quick to post. I should have asked about the procedure to replace it. Is this a task for a backyard mechanic or should I pass it on to my mechanic? Bill

I know CC sells a C1 seal but I dont know if it works on 53-54. Seems 54 is unique to later models.
