    66 AIM Help

Could someone post me a decent, printable copy of Page C60 C1 ? I am putting the compressor ect. back together and am having trouble figuring it out . Especially since half that page on my AIM is blackened out and unreadable !Also I could use some help on where and how the two ground wires go , so some pictures of a completed and installed one would sure help .I have a 66 327/350 if that makes any difference. Thanks,Jim

      Re: 66 AIM Help

      ,Thanks Bill !

This already brings up several questions now that I can see it , and read most of it :

{#1} Item # 19 Washer. It notes ... (L79 only) . I don't have any , or at least I can't find any . Doesn't mean they were not there originally, as I am missiing some other bolts to this assembly as well . I do have 5 shims in front of the mounting bracket, although the Aim shows them both . So.... do all 66 L79s have this washer in place of some shims ? {#2} If so where can I get some ?

      {#3} Isn't the bracket (#14) show in reverse ?

Lastly , just for the sake of curiosity , what possible difference can an L79 option make to the alignment of an A/C compressor ?

I know some of you guys know this !

I'm guessing but it may be that the washers were needed for the L-79 application in order to space the compressor out for pulley alignment. The base engine versus L-79 may have used a 1/8" different water pump hub spacing.

The GM #3706737 washer was 13/32" ID, 3/4" OD, and 3/16" thick. It was discontinued without supercession in June, 1971. It was primarily used for shock absorber fastening systems across most of the Chevrolet car and truck lines but not Corvette.

          Re: 66 AIM Help

          Hi Joe,

Thanks for the info on that washer, and a plausable explanation to the reason for them !

I however think I fiqured out that some of the info on C60- C1 that I have , and the one supplied by Bill, were in fact a carry over from the 65 AIM , and it must have changed sometime in 66, as the bracket they picture as #9 , is a completely different set up from the one I have .

To confirm this , I would ask if any one can send me the same page from a 67 AIM.

          Thanks again guys,

          Jim

Does anyone have the same page in a 67 Aim..

            Hello again Joe,

I was just going to tell you that after reading some more ,I found that the pulleys were the same . Then I saw your revision. You are in fact correct that a different water pump was used ! So I bet that was the reason ! I knew someone here would know!

I am however still curious as to whether or not they, the spacers, carried over to the different set up on a mid 66 design. Assuming I do have a correct set up ?

A 67 AIM page will help me confirm that !

The 1967 AIM also shows the 3706737 washers with a notation for L-79 only. The only difference is that the L-79 reference is typed rather than hand-written.

                  Thanks again Bill.

The 67 AIM did answer one question .. Bracket #14 is reversed from the 66 AIM !

As for the rest , I guess I am on the hunt for some washers. So if anybody knows where to get some , please chime in .

Also some detailed photos of the compressor set up would sure help !
