    C2 Trailing Arms

Approx. when did all C2 trailing arms begin receiving the 2 holes for mounting the rear stabilizer bar? I know big blocks got them, but I'm mainly questioning the small block starting date. TIA

    Re: C2 Trailing Arms

    Al,

I don't think the C2 small blocks ever had trailing arms with the 2 holes for mounting the rear stabilizer bar from the factory. At least my late 67 S/B trailing arms didn't have them.

I think the rear stabilizer was only used on the big block cars. Maybe the service trailing arms had the holes.

When I replaced my trailing arms, I was given the choice of big block or small block trailing arms, with the only difference being the holes for the rear stabilizer.

For service here's the parts history.

The 1st July '65 revision of the P&A30 shows both '65 trailing arms for 327 engines; Gr 5.382 # 3864035 and 036, respectively for left and right. It also shows (only) the right torque control arm for 396 engines, #3874770, so I'm guessing the holes made the difference.

The history lists show the numbers 3864035 replaced by 38747769 on 10-65, and the 036 with 770 on 11-65, both supposedly for big and small blocks, as the displacement was no longer quoted.

Of course, '63 and '64, and '65 with disc brake delete still used another set of trailing arm #s.

I think you will find that the trail arm holes for the sway bar were done off line as needed. I guess it is possible that a small block got the holes out of operator error thinking a bb was in que for build.

I was just wondering as my original TA had the holes. Gene, you might have a point, because my car had the tank sticker for a 427 engine installed on it, even though it was a small block car. Feb 67 car. I now have TA w/o the holes in them

And never had a 427 engine?

That's correct - there was no such thing in the plant as a SB or BB trailing arm; they arrived from Chevrolet-Warren with no holes, and if they were to be installed on a BB car, the two holes for the rear bar bracket were drilled in an off-line bench drill fixture. That's why the hole dimensions are shown in the A.I.M.

Thanks John, I knew you would know for sure. Tom, no, it never had the big block stuff. The 427 tank sticker had the same exterior color listed as mine, but where mine is 450 interior, this 1 was B blue. I'm 2nd owner, so I know for sure it was a sticker mix-up. I've posted before hoping someone had my original sticker. I was also hoping that by chance that they had mine and i had their's, so we could swap-out. I'm sure they could use paperwork for a 427-435 for documentation more than I need it, since I have other doc's for this car. Anyway, I may repost it at a later date and see what happens.

                    Re: C2 Trailing Arms

I know its not a C2, but 70 (and I presume 71 &72 also) LT-1s came with trailing arms drilled for rear sway bar hardware. I have always believed that this was because they shared the heavy duty rear stub axles as well as rear end yokes with big blocks. Until the service replacement trailing arms became so common, it was easy to tell a real LT-1 by the holes in the trailing arm.

Ralph, I'm in TN for a few days. When I get back Thurs. night, I'll try to remember to post everything on the tank sticker.
