      Re: Sandy

I live in North West Jersey on top of a mountain. I lost part of my roof and had water damage but the Vett's stayed dry. The worst is that we still do not have power. In our community there are 7,000 power customer and as of Tuesday 85% did not have power. I expect that this will improve but it does not look hope full for at least a week. I drive a 13 mile trek along back roads to the major highway every day. There is no power in any of the homes along this drive with 3 communities as of today. My Job takes me across the major part of the state and the devastation is every where. There are places where there were trees/woods that are not more than fields now. It is like what I remember when I went to school in Indiana, when a tornado went through the woods and took down hole sections of woods.

Everyone is freezing and struggling to get gas for there generators if they have them. I run my generator 3 Hours in the morning and 4 hours at night and so far I have gone through at least 55 gallons of fuel. I have small containers and I feel like a gypsy trying to find gas. Most of us are driving to PA to buy gas. You can't buy a gas can. I found one 5 gall. at a nappa for $118. I told them to keep it.

My plight is small compared to the people that have trees in there house or lost there houses all together. The small businesses in the area are getting killed also. All we can hope for is that the power comes on soon so that the rebuilding can commence.

Just got power back yesterday late afternoon. I'm in Central NJ with only wind damage. Several utility poles down. The power crew from Illinois were great. We treated them to Dunkin Donuts boxes of Joe and donuts. The shore area wasn't so lucky.

I live in Brick, N.J. and had power yesterday for the first time. It's almost 2 weeks without power and have been at my daughters 20 minutes outside of Atlantic City. Been coming up to my home every other day to check for damage, pick up mail and check for looters. In my trips up here I looked for the new camouflaged trucks our power company purchased - they must really be great because as of now I have not seen one. This morning on returning for good, three blocks from my house were 4 trucks from Alabama Power working on some poles, was really nice to see them - went an got a Joe Pack from Dun/D and 2 doz. donuts and went back to give them to the Alabama Gang. By the way things went real smooth once New Jersey went to odd/even days for gas purchase. Hard to think I live in the middle of so many areas that were distroyed, 1/2 a block away from a Channel leading to a Bay, 2 blocks away from 2 areas that went under evacuation orders by 6:00pm Weds. and all I lost was power. Life is good.
