Got my first Corvette (1959) in early 1960. It lasted until 1964 when I got a 300 SL that I've had now for 50 years. Bought my present Corvette (1961) in 1985, but wish that I still had the 1959.

Bought my first Corvette in 1985, a new 1986 Coupe.
Bought my '61 in 1988.
Bought my '57 in 1993.

I thought I had these cars a long time until I read some of the posts in this thread.

No regret whatsoever about giving up the '59 for the 300 SL which has provided uninterrupted service for 50 years. The regret comes from not having the '59 270hp, 4-speed, 3.70 positraction Corvette that was unique in its own right and a better fit for me that the present '61. However, thank you for your kind offer.

Again Thanks everyone for keeping telling stories About your Corvettes. From reading the posts one can sense the passion & love for Corvettes. Not hearing from any fast buck Freddie's or ones bought for as part of a appreciating asset in a 401-K.

That's my mom and dad at Carlisle in '03 I believe. My dad got the car in '89, and although it was all there, it was a mess. Over the years he went through the mechanicals, rebuilt the engine, painted it right in the driveway (he made a paint booth out of 2X2's and plastic), new carpets and drove it to work every day for years… unless there was winter salt on the roads. From 89 on he never missed a Carlise, we had good times with that car. It truly is part of the family. I've had it now for a few years and the rolling restoration continues. My dad passed away in '07, but the 66 embodies so many good memories that I'll keep it for the rest of my life. This year she gets her bumpers re-chromed and that 45 year old foam in the seats replaced. If funds are available she may also get all of the ignition wire sheilding that has been missing since we got the car.

Yesterday I joined the NSCR and just seeing the logo brought me back to the old days. I remember that there was always a copy of The Driveline kicking around, along with the latest catalog from Long Island Corvettes which luckily was only a 1/2 drive from home. My dad was a walking C2 encyclopedia so all I ever had to do is what he told me to do. Now I have a ton of questions and I realized I know very little about this car. I didn't even know what kid of gas to put it! So I'm gonna need the help of you experts on this forum.

I've owned my 71 since March 23rd, 1971. It had been ordered by the dealer for stock. I saw it on my lunch hour and stopped to look at it, we arrived at a deal, and I picked it up after work.
It's the only Corvette I've owned, driven, or ridden in. No one but myself has driven it since I picked it up.

Hi David,
I wish I could say it was all conscious decisions but certainly for the first couple of decades it was just the way it happened.
I always had a garage for it to sit in so it was just easier to keep it than sell it and finally the light went on and I realized what I had.

This really is a great thread, and I have to say, a bunch of great guys. This was my first post and a few people contacted me offering help, giving me magazines and inviting me to events. A very nice welcome. I'm really looking forward to meeting some other owners. Glad to be back David.

I own a 67 L79 convertible...bought it 23 years ago when my son was born. I own a 72 Lt1 Z28 for 36 years now and a 71 chevelle ss ( its the new kid on the block) only have owned it for 3 years. But...the past owner had it 40 years. What would our lives be without cars...I wish I had a dollar for every time I've pondered that question. Scott W.

I've owned the same '65 Coupe four different times and I just got it back a year ago and I've been told that I'm not getting rid of it again...

Wife's orders as she's tired of hearing me complain that I've got to go track it down (again) and buy it back (again)..!!!

It's going to be with me from now on...

Well..at least you can let cars go. Once i have one I keep it. Heck...i still have my Honda 70 from when i was a kid...and of course i still ride it. 45 years and counting. Hopefully your Vette was in great condition every time you got it back. Although. ..im a parts guy...i go to Carlisle at least 5 events a year. ..always scrounging for parts...Thats the most fun part of this hobby for me.
