    Tracing History - 66 Convertible

I bought a 1966 Corvette Convertible 427 car. I bought it for my wife and honestly didn't car beyond the fact that it was the color she wanted and the year she wanted. Now we have discovered that the car has numbers matching drive train. The car is a rare one year color with rare saddle leather. Problem is somewhere along the line somone has stolen the Trim Tag.

I have no way to determine if the rest of the options are correct. Anybody that can help I would greatly appreciate it. We actually know where the car was sold orginally (Oregon). We know that based on the restoration someone went through great detail to keep it original. It was sold to Mecum from Marshall Goldman in Cleveland, but they say the only info they have is that it was sold to Mecum.

Everett, the NCRS guidelines categorize a Corvette without a trim tag or with a reproduction trim tag as counterfeit. This means you cannot have the car Flight Judged. The Shipping Data report can confirm what dealer ordered the car and then you can start your search.

Was told I needed to include more detail.

1966 Corvette originally purchased from Lew Williams Chevrolet in Portland Oregon. The car is currently Mosport Green with Saddle Leather interior. As all the options, Side Pipes, Teak Steering wheel, 427/425hp with the correct Holley carb and intake. The Motor and 4 speed Transmission are numbers matching. Vin 197676S112675.

Car was for sale at Marshall Goldman in Cleveland, OH. They sent it to Mecum Monterrey and did not meet reserve so apparently Mecum bought the car and took it to Dallas where I bought it.

Based on the work we have done it looks like whoever was restoring it was restoring it back to completely original. They went through the effort to be period correct on everything, right down to having the original starter rebuilt. That is why we believe they intended to do more with this car. Only thing missing is the trim plate.

We did not buy the car to sell, but would love to be able to get it judged if we could trace the history and prove that the color and options are correct.

I don't know how you can be sure of the original colors of the interior and exterior without the trim tag especially if you are aware of a previous restoration. I don't believe the NCRS will except anything other than the trim tag. You might want to contact Dave Brigham the judging chairman and discuss with him.

Everett, the vin you provided is not a corvette vin.

I can't be sure, that is why I am posting here and on other boards. I am hoping that if someone put that much effort into restoring it at some point, maybe, just maybe they follow the Corvette boards and will see my inquiry. A 66 Corvette restored to this degree with these features would be memorable to someone.

This car is more of mystery every day. This car was advertised by one Mecum and Marshall Goldman as actual mileage (46,000). We tore down the numbers matching motor yesterday and thought for sure the car had been bored out because there was little to no piston wear. Nope.... original 427 pistons. So we have a fully restored, numbers matching drive train on a low mileage corvette fully restored back with all the details. Still hoping somebody associated with this car is on this board and will be able to help.
