I own a 1968 Corvette that I am told by the SDR, was delivered to Bauman Chevrolet in Wilkinsburg, Pa. Do any of these old dealerships have any information on the cars they may have sold back in the 60s? What is the normal procedure for finding the specifics for your car without a build sheet? Also, is there some tried and true method for trying to track down the previous owners? At this point in time, I have the dealer it was delivered to originally and I have the names of the two previous owners but nothing in between. Thanks in advance,

You can contact the dealership, if they are still in business, but many of these old dealerships destroy their records after some period of time. That happened with my '71. The dealer was still in business, but when they changed locations they trashed old records. They were nice enough to send me a pair of license plate frames.

So here is another question. Since my car started out in Pennsylvania, does anyone know if the Pa. DMV has a way to trace VIN numbers on cars from 1968? Thanks

DMV offices in most states will not give out information regarding previous owners due to privacy laws. Having said that, I do not know if they could trace an owner from 1968. Try giving them a call and explaining your situation--you never know you may get a helpful person who may help regardless of directives because it is over 50 years ago.

Thanks. Evidently there is no text book way to search for this information. I was hoping all those in similar situations had a tried and true method for running down this type of information. Appreciate the responses.
