71 shipped new to Chevrolet Engineering Center, Warren. What might that mean?

Just got my shipping report back and it is zone 0, “dealer” 502. Chevrolet Engineering Center, Warren, MI. I have tried to read through posts and decipher what that meant. Possibly for testing. Possibly sold to a GM employee there? Are there other possibilities? And is there any way to determine anything beyond that it was shipped there? Owner from 1988-2023 couldn’t care less about its past, so its history is pretty much a black hole. Any help would be appreciated.
All I know is that it might have been owned by an employee of the Chevrolet dealership in Bryan, OH, mid 1980’s.
Tank sticker indicates Warbonnet 2-top convertible with black interior, and black vinyl hardtop. Equipped with LS6, M22, power steering, power windows, tilt/tele, am/fm, 3.70 posi.

    Mike,
I think some GM employees had their vehicles delivered to 0-502 if they worked there or in the general area. I know that's not much help. Good luck.

      Mike,

The LS6 and M22 is not normal for the "average'' PEP assigned driver to order or any engine without air conditioning. It is a long shot, but the tank sticker might have some hand written designation for usage or assigned driver. 0-502 is definitely the Chevrolet Tech Center location.
Also could have been ordered/assigned for Milford proving ground evaluation after Tech Center new vehicle prep.
Sometimes the cars were sold with yellow markings for coolant protection status or other caution stickers. Anything
like that in the engine compartment would be pretty well faded or just looks like a yellow dot.

      Good luck!

It was probably a "pool" car. Employees had access to company vehicles they could sign out for errands. I remember driving a Cadillac Eldorado when I worked in Warren and a 396CID/350BHP Nova (fun!) at Tonawanda.

Those pool cars would get sold at a discount when done as pool cars. I'm guessing somebody arranged the LS6 with intention to buy it. One of the secretaries at Tonawanda did that with a '69 Corvair. We all knew to take it easy on the Corvair...

          Hugh and Bill,
Thanks for responding. You two know the ins and outs of that process, so I appreciate your help. I will continue turning over rocks in the hopes that something definitive will be underneath one of them.
