Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
The second one listed (can't recall the name) doesn't seem to be able to accept anything other than a 17 character VIN. That does not work for older cars.- Top

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
Dan,
InstaVIN.com sent it to me for freewith the way I asked the question.
Take note on how I did this:
I did the search, one did not have the info, the other two did indicate they had data. I sent them a note that said for the 1 title and 1 "brand Record" - meaning accident, title transfer, theft, etc., - before I purchased the report I wanted confirmation that the data was NOT 2000 - 2010 data and that I wanted confirmation of know 1970's era Brand records, meaning title transfers, accident, or theft.
InstaVIN replied that they were now working on the data for classic cars and that at this time this was all they had, and attached the report.
What this did was confirm the 1st title date in PA.
It gave me a date in 1969 that I did not have before.
The gap I have is this - we knew the car was produced April 28, 1966,
There is a 2-month gap to the first purchase and...
The car was 1st delivered to Mason Chevrolet, Kennett Square PA, then apparently transfered to Reedman of Langhorne PA.
Anyone know what Mr. Mason?
Mason Chevrolet as the dealer changed hands twice since then.- Top

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
Ron,
You gave me a place to start in a priviouse post and I did just that.
I asked my insurance agent to look up my vin NICB and it was not in the theft or total loss record.
My head is spinning. I tried the site you posted and got to a dead end.
I know it's something I'm not doing or doing wrong.
I think I am to anxious and am not getting what I read.
Is it possible to get this info from NCRS for their fee? If not is there a profecional that can search for $$.
All I want is the proof that my car was born as I bought it with the AS/IS title in its wrecked condition.
Can the vin report confirm engine and trans info?

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
Dom,
Autoancestry.com (I am going from memory), I expect it is pricey.
The issue you have--- specific to Cali cars --- is that these websites specifically state the data is not provided - there - for Cali cars prior to 1985. I do believe that is why you will reach dead ends in finding about an accident in the 70's.
The NICB is particularly - non sharing - and I know of no known ways to get that information, I tried through my insurance agent and I am sure the error was how the agent asked the question.
The first thing you have to do is get the data NCRS has - did you order your delaer deliver info?
From this point, and the other prior owner information you have, you then have to do leg work. If you like, send me an email with all the details in one note, many of which you have posted here on different threads and I'll comment on good next steps.- Top

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
The NCRS VIN report will not tell you anything about the engine and tranny originally in your car. It will only tell you the production date and the dealer name, number, and GM zone code it was shipped to. If you have an original tank sticker or window sticker (which has all the options and equip. on the car originally) then you can tie those together with the NCRS data and confirm what your car originally had. Does your car have a valid VIN stamp on the existing engine pad and tranny that matches the VIN on your plate (in your case the one welded to the frame)? That would confirm it best of all.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
Ron,
Thanks for your patience and expertice on this matter. This seems to be an area that you navigate thru better than the average guy.
Yes, the insurance agent did get the results and no theft record and no total loss record.
I just recieved a E-mail that welcomed me to AAMVA. I went for it after reading your post today. I thought didn't make it in but I guess I'm learning.
I am going to get the info NCRS has if that is the best way to start.

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
This is always an interesting thread when we try to do the forensics on our cars.
This prompted me with a different thought.
One of my cars is a California original "Black Plate" car, and I still have that plate. Will California maintain the history of registered owners based not on the VIN, but on the license plate number?

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
Michael & Richard,
1st --Thanks for the info Michael. No my engine is a CE engine and I got rid of the original trans in 1971 as it was abused and I had a primo one from a new vette that the customer ( frequent buyer) refused because of a linkage problem.
2nd Richard, I have a black plate off one of my motorcycles and wanted to transfer it to another that I was regestering for the first time in 40years ( same make). one was a 1964 and the other a 1957 and they said I couldn't do it unless they needed to be "closer"???

I answered your Question wrong, I was somewhere else.
I was told by DMV that the data base only kept files in CA for 7 years. I have the original plate off my 1963 project and wanted to look the owner up. They said NO CAN DO. It also could have been her break time as I have found them at DMV to not to all be on the same page.
Try it, you can never tell what you might come up with.

Re: Corvette Shipping Data Report
That means people reported actual mileage that was going to or the ODO had rolled over. Mine is no where close, but sure would be nice to get some of those early titles to confirm what people recall. Also would help to show where some might have turned back the ODO which was very common back then, IMHO.
On the sites, add123 gave less info and cost more.- Top
