That's pretty much par for the course! Once documents exceed the age mandated by various record retention statues, the question becomes one of storage economics. Why bother to retain 'archane' data?

Another piece of advice for those who have found their car's original dealership. These guys are OFTEN approached by car enthusiasts and many have developed the 'time waster' opinion of us...

I found it REALLY helped to preface the initial dealership contact with a phrase to the effect "I'm not looking for something for free. I'm willing to pay for your time/assistance."

John, After my supposed 3th owner sold my car to #4, he bought your car If it weren't for a state or two between them I'd say there were the same guy.

$40??? flip the card & go, you might learn something (as I have) that make the landscape even more of a challenge.

You also want to visit that thread from the other day, that got me a title date I did not have before...between the two I have swiss cheese.

It may all turn on the size of the dealership and/or the personality of the owner or ??? Some dudes are just different and if you don't ask, you won't know. I know that John Neas has told the story of the Iowa dealer
(Spirit Lake?) who sold his SR1 (6 copies of the 56s raced at Sebring, minus the big tank and plus AM radios; 2 found so far) and that gentleman produced a copy of the check that he wrote to Doane Chevrolet in Illinois to buy the car so that he could sell it to the owner of a shoe store(?) in ?Sioux Falls SD. The car came with Halibrands and the new owner was teased by his morning coffee group about being "too cheap" to buy hubcaps...........obviously NOT car nuts
