Does anyone remember Don Allen Mid Town Cheverolet in Manhatten, N.Y. My very early 63 Fuel injected coupe was delivered there. Original production date was Oct 6, 1962. I can't find any history for Don Allen Chevrolet in N.Y.
Don Allen Chevrolet was located on Broadway in NYC at 57th ST. It later became known as Midtown Chevrolet and it became a GM factory store. In the late 60's up to the mid 80's GM operated factory stores in midtown Manhattan they were known as Midtown Chevrolet and Midtown Pontiac on Broadway at 57th st. Circle Buick was on 8th Ave and 56th St. The Cadillac and GMC Truck stores were on 11th Ave at 57th st. At that time the GM had many executive offices were located on 5th ave and 57th St in the GM building also in Manhattan. These stores were subsequently closed in the 80's with Cadillac being purchased by Victor Potampkin. The only stores remaining in Manhattan are currently owned by Potampkin who holds all the GM franchises operation out of the 11th ave location. GM operated factory stores because no private operator could afford the rents. Many of the manufacturers both foreign and domestic operate factory stores in Manhattan today for the same reason.
