    1962 Shipping Data Report - 2 Dealers

I just received an interesting Shipping Data Report for my 62 Vin 6331. The production date of 2/2/1962 was no surprise but the original delivery dealer was either Dealer code 511 or Dealer code 611, in zone 6.

I was always certain that my 62 had been delivered in California since I bought it in the Sacramento area, in 1974, from a person who had owned it for ten years, and the fuel injected engine still had parts of the California Positive Crankcase Ventilation system attached. So the California origin was no surprise.

What is interesting is that the Shipping Data Report indicates it was delivered to one or the other of two different dealers.

    Quote
The name and Address for the Dealer was either.

    Roller Chevrolet (511)
    Monterey, CA

    or

    Val Strough Chevrolet (611)
    Oakland, CA

    How can this be? LOL

Looks like information about Roller Chevrolet is hard to find. Looks like the dealers location has been redeveloped and is now medical suites.

Looks like Val Strough Chevrolet is still in business but there is also a Honda Dealership at the same location.

The microfiche is damaged to the point we could not tell if it was 512 or 612 so we provided you both just in case.

      Hello Roy,
Thanks for replying, but I'm getting more confused about what is actually in the microfiche.

I've seen Val Strough Chevrolet listed as 612 in the NCRS database for 1970, but thought it might have changed from 611 in 1962 to 612 in 1970. So I'm starting to get confused about what is actually listed in the microfiche.

Two dealers were listed on my data report with 511 and 611. Were both of these listed or is this where you couldn't tell which number it was?

Two dealer names were listed. Were both or any of these dealer names actually listed on the microfiche?

        Bruce,

It is not rocket science but confusing I realize. The microfiche created information shows zone and delaer code. There are GM deler lists we have which were not part of the microfiche. When we do not know what the exact dealer number because it was hard to read from damage and decide it could be either or we look it up and supply both. The information we supply is from GM. There are pages missing in this data thus some dealers can not be found. The information in the online database is not was not created from GM data, it is member entered by anyone claiming to have information if it was not accurate when enterd it will not be accurate now or agree with the actual information we supply.

Regional office at that time was located Oakland; John James was in the LA Regional office, but he might have a memory of a personal contact.
          I'll e-mail his # to you.

Val Strough Chevrolet was the place where Dick Thompson's original '56 got painted red; I can't lay my hands on one of those supposedly
"performance" dealers in the '60s but if on that list, they were supposed to have much better access to such units than the smaller dealer in Monterey.

Roy's statement about the torn microfiche puts it in perspective of trying to give you all they can.....but I would still be intrigued by the possibility of another dealer buying your 62 FI car because Strough had 10 sitting there.

I think I have got it now. The microfiche does not have the dealers name; it only has the shipping date, zone, and dealer code. The dealer name comes from a separate list.

I am certainly glad to have this information even though I have two paths to check out. Thank you, Roy.

            Loren,
            Thanks, for the information.
