    Another Shipping Data Question

I received my Shipping Data Report and was suprised to find that my 1971 was shipped to Park Circle Motor Co. in Baltimore MD. I have talked to the original owner who said he purchased the car in Kansas City, MO but could not remember the dealer name.
    My Questions are as follows:

How did the car shipped to Baltimore end up in Kansas City? Was it common to dealer swap a car that far distance?

Does anyone know if Park Circle Motor Co. is still a Chevrolet Dealer? Has anyone had any contact with them?

This is my first new thread - thanks in advance, I've been reading and reseaching on the NCRS Discussions Boards for a while now and I have had many questions answered without ever having to ask before. This is a great service to our hobby and a lot of fun too.

The Shipping Data is very much appreciated and well worth the $40. What a great service to make this information available.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Re: Another Shipping Data Question

Are you absolutely sure the "original owner" was indeed the original owner ??? If the person actually bought it as a "like new" used car with little or no miles on it, that could explain the confusion. Maybe there is another owner out there before your believed to be 1st owner ????

Does your car have any delivery paperwork with it ?? Warranty book etc ???

I did find an old article that mentions Park Circle from the Baltimore Sun in 1997. Park Circle must have been one of the largest dealerships in the area.

          Hello Phil,
What you may want to contact the " The person who you think is the original owner" to see if he had ordered a Corvette or bought it out of dealer inventory? This will help establish what is his knowledge of the past about the Corvette.
An onther cencerio maybe the car was ordered from a Chevrolet dealer and had it "dropped shipped to a Chevrolet dealer for delivery. He may have move from Maryland to Missouri ?
A dealer trade is out of the question since the distance is too far of a distance between what you have learned with the shipping report and what he has told you of the Chevrolet dealer where he bought the car.
You need to ask for more information to find the facts.
          Good luck,
          Drew Papsun

            Re: Another Shipping Data Question

Thanks for your help! I called Park Circle Motors and they are still in business but do have any records from that period, which I expected. But the lady I spoke with was very nice and past Corvette owner. Always fun to swap stories.

Since I have no GM documentation, I'm fortunate that I started my research on this car in 1985 when for $5 the state BMV would send you all the records (names, addresses etc) they had on a VIN. Though this, I was able to speak with a Doctor in Flint MI who said he bought the car from the "original" owner, a Doctor who had moved to Texas. While he remembered his name he wasn't sure where in Texas he was. So I hit a deadend. Later, though the internet I was able to located this Doctor and, after repeated tries, I spoke with him. He said he was the original owner and bought the car "new" from a dealer in Kansas City after he Graduated from Med school.
He then drove it to Flint to complete his Residency at a hospital there. He also said he didn't have any paperwork but did remember the color, 4sp, hardtop, luggage rack, 454 and that it was "too low to drive in Michigan snows" so he sold to Owner#2, he did remember owner#2's name so the story checks out from the info I have.
I'm not sure if Doctor#1, the "original" owner will be willing to help much more or not. But I will try.

Speculation: if he was from Baltimore, moved to KC for Med School and MOM & Dad bought the car in MD for a Grad present and their dealer had it dropped shipped to the dealer in KC. I might have an over active imagination but it would sure explain alot!

Thanks again for your interest and help!
            Phil
