Does anyone living in the New Castle area remember Van (or Vanis) Chevrolet? I can't find it on the Web and wonder if it closed. I've been told it was on Chestnut St. My 66 was sold there new.
Also, my first attempts at the Delaware DMV have only reminded me why they (and all DMVs) have such a low satisfaction rating Does anyone know if Delaware will even do a title search "for historical purposes"?
I haven't lived in DE since 1969, but was born and raised in Newark. I remember the dealers Van's Chevrolet and Frank W. Diver in Wilmington and Porter in Newark.
I couldn't tell you where either Wilmington dealership was located but remember when Porter was on Main street in Newark and later relocated to Cleveland Ave.
Rob: i grew up there and knew the Vandenbraak family. They owned "Van's" Chevrolet on Route 13 (Dupont Highway) in New Castle, Delaware. It is closed. Other dealers were Colonial Chevrolet in Wilminington, Frank W. Diver in Wilmington and a few others.
Rob, Van's Chevrolet was sold and became Greytak Chevrolet(in the 70s ?)
The name was later changed to Nucar Chevrolet.
Nucar Chevrolet
174 N, Dupont Hwy
New Castle, DE
Thank you both for the information. Very fun to learn about your car's origins! The data report states that the dealer was "Vanis Chevrolet" which has to be one in the same as Vans Chevrolet.
As another post has mentioned, it's fun to see where your car has lived during it's life. Mine started out in Delaware in 1966 and then from there until 1985 information is not known. In 1985 it was in Ohio and had come from West Virginia. Now she's retired in San Diego
