Chevrolet Dealership on PCH in Redondo Beach, CA

Always wondered for so many years the name and thought this was a excellent board and place to ask the question.

What was the name of this Chevrolet dealership? It was on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach California. They also sold Oldsmobiles across the street under the same name.

My father bought his first and only Corvette off the new car showroom.

It was a 1962 Sateen Silver with Red interior. Hardtop only. Base motor, three speed with blackwall tires. He never was for buying options on any new cars! I believe this no option car and color combo would make this car a pretty rare today if it is still on the road.

I was just eleven years old when he bought this car in 1962 and started the Corvette Passion in me that has lasted for over 45 years!

Our family purchased a new 1963 Oldsmobile Super 88 months later for Mother and Dad traded in the Corvette in 1963 for a new '64 Cadillac Coupe deVille. Again off the new car showroom. All from this same dealership in Redondo Beach.

Thanks in advance for maybe solving a very old question from me.

I think the name of the dealership I was asking about is H.E. Baher Chevrolet from reading another posting. Suplveda Blvd. changes into Pacific Coast Highway at Artesia Blvd. and appears to be the same street according to Mapquest.

It was a long time ago almost 50 years and distances seemed bigger then? I guess when you are a small boy? If this dealership sold Cadillacs on the West side of the street and Oldsmobiles on the East side in 1961-1962 then there is a pretty good chance these two dealerships are one in the same?

Thanks to everyone who read the posting and searched you thoughts.

Dana..my only recollection of the dealership was the Cadillac side was on the west side of the street and the Olds on the east side. Chevys were done on the west with Cadillac. Traveling southbound on the street it made a sharp left turn towards the East. If 315 N. PCH is south of Manhattan Beach Blvd..maybe? I tried a mapquest on the 315 N. address and nothing found (today).

Sorry, but I was only 10 years old.

I guess if that matches up it could be the dealership. The year was either 1961 or 1962.

It's not a big deal, but since the side of the TDB was setup and all the researching going on I thought I take a shot at an old question that has bothered me for years.

My father is still living although at his advance age and health is not able to converse with me other than a "hello" and "how are you". We sat down together about 6-7 years ago to maybe find out about the '62, but I remembered more about the car than he did. His memory was already starting to fade.

        Thanks.

          Peter,

The address was 707 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in Manhattan Beach. I lived in Manhattan Beach just off of Sepulveda during that time. I remember the Chevrolet dealership only ( on the West side of the street ) and this was in the summer of 1964 as my dad bought his first new car a 64 Impala SS and that's when I saw two new 64 corvette's on the show room floor, a silver coupe and a fawn convertible and that's when I got hooked at the age of 14. My dad was into racing so the salesman took us to the back of the dealership and introduced us to Dick Guldstrand as he had two stalls in the back here he worked on his race corvette, I remember this just like it was yesterday. We were always going out to the racetracks such Riverside and Willow Springs to see Dick run and to see the Cheetah's which were running circles around everyone, those were the days.........

I believe there are some local corvette clubs in that area check them out. Just looked at Google maps and it looks like a Benz dealership is there now.

          Mike

              Hi Peter

I just received my NCRS Shipping Data Report and it says that the original delivery dealer for my '66 convertible was Lee White Chevrolet in Redondo Beach. I googled the name and found the following information.

"LEE WHITE CHEVROLET, Redondo Beach, CA (Drag racing sponsor)
Lee White Chevrolet was located at 315 Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, California during the 1960s. Lee White sponsored employee Dale Armstrong in a Chevy II drag car. Dale later went to work for Dana Chevrolet and campaigned a Dana Camaro under the name 'The Canuck' which referred to his Canadian background."

Maybe this is the dealership you were referring to.
