    Seymour Chev, Cambridge MA 32-610 & 32-611

I finally confirmed the ordering dealer for my 1969 Corvette thanks to the NCRS. I've had the order copy for many years (duplicate copies- found under the rear carpeting!). What is interesting about this dealer is that they had code 32-611 in 1969 and 32-610 in 1975 (I have a build sheet copy thanks to Ralph Spears). I researched this dealer years ago. The short explanation is that when there is a change in ownership- a new dealer account number (the dealer code) is assigned. If the dealer name stays the same the code will be very close the the prior code. Another note worthy point is that the first letter in the dealer name has a relationship the the first digit in the dealer code. For example- a dealer code that starts with a "1" might be a dealer whose name starts with an "A". As shown above, Seymour's code began with an "6". Dealers with names that began with "S" probably had a dealer code that started with a "6". I don't know if this was unique to the Boston zone or a standard GM protocol.

    Bill,
I have the same situation for the selling dealer of my 1971. Matt Slap Chevrolet in Philadelphia is my delivery and selling dealer. On the tank sheet they are listed as Zone 15 - Dealer 628. When I spoke to Al; Grenning his book had them as Zone 15 - Dealer 629. I believe his book is of late 60's origin. There must have been some sort of business change to cause this.

      Hello Dave,
The dealer book Al Grenning has is from mid to late 1970's.
Sometimes the same dealer number did change. Each year the zone did added or deleted dealerships. GM did leave gaps in the number system to make room for the changes.
      Regards,
      Drew Papsun

        Thanks Drew....
That makes more sense as I think there was a change at Matt Slapp in the 70's. Its a help that we know there could have been more that one dealer number. One more piece to the puzzle.
