'66 Silver 427/390 from East Detroit (Eastpointe), MI?

Hello all --

Here's my data for my 1966 Silver Pearl/STD 427/390 #25886:

Production date: 7/7/66
Dealer Code: 328 zone: 44

Merollis Chevrolet
East Detroit, MI

I bought the car just last year in Clarkston, MI -- only 40mi away -- from the alleged 3rd owner (I'm only going off what the last owner told me; I can't verify that he was the 3rd owner).

I can, however, verify that he owned the car since 1983. A Michigan DMV title search came up with 1983 as the first registration date for him and this car. Michigan title searches do not go back any further than that, though.

Merollis Chevrolet still exists -- I found their website and looked them up on Google maps.

SO -- is there anyone out there that remembers this car or could help me with a method to get a deeper title search or any more information?

Absent hiring a private eye, you could be SOL on tracing a Michigan sold car. The Secretary of State there has LONG had a policy of retaining automobile records for something like 8-10 years and then spooling the older records into that great bit bucket in the sky!

Hmmm..... I grew up in East Detroit near 9 Mile Road and Kelly Road. Unfortunately I don't remember your Corvette (I was only 5 in 1966), but I VERY clearly remember Merollis Chevrolet. I used to ride my bike through the dealership parking lot on the way to my friend's house during the early 1970s. On one occasion, during the summer of 1971, I remember a car carrier unloading two new C3s. (I remember it was 1971 because I just got a new bike.) Anyway, one was white and the other one was dark blue. I actually asked the guy who was driving the cars off the truck if he'd take me for a ride. His response went something like, "Get the hell out of the way kid." I didn't get my first ride in a Corvette until several years later. I do know that my dad bought a couple Caprice Classics and a Suburban from that dealership. I just wish he had bought that dark blue '71 Corvette. Good luck with your search.

Andrew, not a lot to go off of here. I live close by and my teenage years were out in non other than Clarkston, but the closest I got to Madonna was getting out of there, never like she, getting the H*** out of Michigan.

If you only have three owners, you should be able to piece that together, you have to be organized and as the other guys say, be a detective. To do this you are going to have to name names, dates, cousins, ex wives, girlfriends, and old buddies of the owners to get any where. You might look at some of my posts involving my search out around Philadelphia and other areas of PA.
